Six podcasts you need to hear in 2020

Subscribe for laughs, knowledge and good times

It wasn’t long ago podcasts were a minor part of life – with most people listening to music or talking books on their commute or during a workout.

But now, people are choosing to listen to podcasts more and more often – with the thoughts and conversations of people being streamed into their ears on all kinds of topics.

Here are six of our favourites to listen to in 2020.

ALL THE RIGHT MOVIES
Listen in as a group of mates discuss their favourite films – from smash hits to cult favourites. It’s a light-hearted look at what makes the films to enjoyable, with the natural banter between the guys behind the microphones having plenty of laughs as we ll as offering some real insight into movie-making and letting the listener in to plenty of pub ammo-style facts. You can find the podcast in all the usual places, and check out the website here

ATHLETICO MINCE
What was supposed to be a football podcast fronted by comedian Bob Mortimer and journalist and writer Andy Dawson ended up becoming a surreal journey through the pair’s comedic minds. Fans of Mortimer from his work with Vic Reeves will enjoy hearing his flights of fancy unfold and Dawson is more than just a straight man for him to bounce off. Expect characters, jingles, fictional chats between footballers and loads more. It’s avalabel on all podcast services and has a website here.

LIFE GOALS WITH THEO DELANEY
If you like Desert Island Discs but wish it had more football, check this podcast out. Each week, a celebrity guest talks through the eight goals that had the biggest impact on their football-supporting lives and pair it with a tune that meant something to them at the time. It’s simple, but brilliant. It’s on all podcast streaming sites and apps, and you can read more about it here.

NOTHING IS REAL
There are hundreds of podcasts about the Beatles but this is our pick of the bunch. Hear two fans chat about the world’s greatest ever band (no arguments, right?) focusing on a different theme every week. Want to know how each of the solo Beatles were doing in 1980, there’s an episode for that. Want to spend an hour listening to the hosts discuss the merits (or otherwise) of Paul McCartney’s fledgling Wings career, that’s available, too. Available at all the usual places and on the webiste here.

OUT TO LUNCH WITH JAY RAYNER
The food critic takes a special guest out for lunch in each episode and talks about, well, whatever they want, to be honest. Not only do you get chat about the food they’re eating and the restaurant they’re in, in real time, but you also get a relaxed interview backed by the ambient noise of a bustling venue. We’ll have seconds, please. Check it out at all the usual podcast places.

TOP FLIGHT TIME MACHINE
The second podcast on this list to feature Andy Dawson, this was is another football-based show that quickly went off-piste. If you want to hear analysts talk about expected goals ratios and new formations implemented by South American tacticians, this is not for you. If you want to join in live readings of old Roy of the Rovers comics and hear to middle aged men put the world to rights, it is. Check it out on all podcast streaming servces, and at the website here
