Review: Razer Opus – noise- cancelling headphones

Our verdict on these top-of-the-range noise cancelling headphones

“Hold on, I’ll just put the Razer round my ears”. If you heard that phrase you might think someone was in a barber shop. But, undoubtedly if you were speaking to them with the Razer Opus wireless headphones on, you’d hear every word in wonderfully clear sound. We recently tried a pair out and
from the moment you unbox them from a chic black carry-case, you feel you are opening something made with care and attention to detail.

The Razer Opus headphones are designed with a comfortable, plush leatherette trim and memory foam ear cushions that sit easily on the head. Razer has a strong background as the choice for gamers, and while these aren’t necessarily a pro-gamer choice (note they’re headphones rather than a headset), the in-built microphone quality is excellent. They are perfect for those work-from-home video calls that are all the rage nowadays.

The audio is generally good across the range, though better at low- to mid-frequencies than at the really high end (so probably not for those planning on eight-hour long opera soprano medleys).

They are incredibly easy to pair-up with Bluetooth devices, it’s as simple as tap-and-go, and you’re connected. The adjustable headband is a snug fit, which could be a real plus if you plan on using them for workouts or going for a run, too.

Our favourite feature is the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). You can blissfully ignore all those around you – just try not to use it as an excuse when your partner is asking you if you’ve done the dishes yet. This is an inadvisable use (maybe there should be a warning?) but effective nonetheless.

Overall, these are top multipurpose headphones, ideal for those on-the-go, at an affordable price.
$199.99 USD (Dhs731). Available through Razer.com, and RazerStores.
