First day back: what to expect when the kids return to school in the UAE

Sponsored: Find out what education will look like when children return to their classrooms

It’s been a long six months for parents of school age children – we get it, we have been there with you every step of the way.

First, there was week after week of distance learning that was followed by a seemingly never-ending summer holiday.

However, the end is finally in sight as kids across Dubai and Abu Dhabi are getting ready to go back to school.

But while parents would normally be concentrating now on buying new school shoes and ticking items off their school’s uniform list, the global pandemic has led to a new twist on the usual start-of-a-new-academic-year excitement.

From queries about safety mixing with other children if their kids go back to school, to questions about their mental health if they stay home, it’s fair to say that very few of us are quite sure about the right choices to make for the benefit of our children.

So we’ve chatted to Michael Gernon, Chief Education Innovation Officer at GEMS Education, who explains exactly what parents and children can expect on their first day of school and beyond.

Gernon answers those burning questions on every parent’s mind and provides reassurance that although school may look very different to what we are used to, well planned safety measures and precautions are firmly in place to ensure that your child is as safe as possible while still managing to get the most out of their education.

Find out what the school day will look like now to keep our children as safe as possible, the new procedures in place, what extra-curricular options will be on offer, plus a whole host of other crucial information that every parent will want to know.
