Halloween in the UAE is a popular time of year for families, with kids – big and little – getting in on the fun. We’ve rounded up some fangtastic Halloween recipes to cook with the kids. So get dressed up in your best Halloween costumes and get ready for some tasty fun this Halloween.

Spooky cobweb doughnut wall

Makes nine doughnuts. Prep time: 30 mins. Cool time: 15 mins.

Ingredients
Nine shop bought ring doughnuts
Doughnut wall to hold nine doughnuts
100g dark chocolate
1 tablespoon butter
Tube of white royal icing
Bag of traditional style pretzels
Orange food colouring
8 tablespoons icing sugar
Shop bought or homemade fondant googly eyes

Method
Step 1: Melt the chocolate in a bain marie with the butter until smooth, immediately dip in the tops of six of the doughnuts and put in the fridge immediately to cool.

Step 2: In a bowl put the icing sugar and add a small amount of water to make a thick paste, add orange food colouring to make it bright orange. Coat the tops of the remaining three doughnuts with the icing and put in the fridge.

Step 3: To decorate, pipe a cobweb design on three of the chocolate coated dughnuts. On the other three chocolate-coated doughnuts add ten-12 of googly eyes all over.

Step 4: On to the three orange coated doughnuts, break the round pretzels in half to look like spider’s legs and stick four into each side of the doughnut. Add two googly eyes.

Step 5: Arrange all of the nine decorated doughnuts on the doughnut wall, which you can decorate using orange paper to create a spooky Halloween theme!

Bat cakes

Makes 12 cupcakes. Prep time: 30 mins. Cook time: 15 mins.

Ingredients
For the cupcakes:
125g butter
100g caster sugar
125g self-raising flour
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 eggs
12 Oreo cookies
Shop bought or homemade fondant googly eyes
Black fondant icing

For the icing:
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons cream cheese
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
8 tablespoons icing sugar

Method
Step 1: Put the butter and sugar into a food processor (this can be done with a stand mixer or hand whisk) and blend until the mixture is pale in colour, Add an egg and blend quickly, adding a spoonful of flour, add the other egg, blend and then slowly add the rest of the flour while mixing in the food processor. Add the cocoa powder and baking powder and blend to a smooth batter.

Step 2: Spoon the mixture into 12 cupcake cases. TIP: use an ice cream scoop to do this to get evenly sized cupcakes.

Step 3: Bake in the oven on 180°C for 15 minutes.

Step 4: To decorate, make the icing by mixing all the ingredients into a smooth creamy texture and cover each cupcake. Cut an Oreo cookie in half and arrange like bat wings on top. Make a disk of black fondant icing for the face and add two googly eyes.

Frankenstein rice krispie cakes

Makes 12. Prep time: 20 mins. Cool time: One hour.

Ingredients
6 cups rice krispies
4 cups mini white marshmallows
2 tablespoons coconut oil
Green food colouring
100g block of dark chocolate/cooking chocolate
Chocolate sprinkles
Shop bought or homemade fondant googly eyes
Tube of red royal icing
24 mini white marshmallows

Method
Step 1: In a saucepan melt the coconut oil on a low heat, add in the mini marshmallows and stir regularly until melted, take off the heat and add green food colouring until you get your desired Frankenstein colour.

Step 2: Add the rice krispies and stir into mix, turn out into a shallow lightly greased baking tin, put in the fridge to cool. Once cool cut into 12 equally sized rectangles.

Step 3: For the decoration melt the chocolate in a bain marie, dip the tops of the rice krispie cakes in the chocolate and then dip in the chocolate sprinkles to look like hair. Make a mouth by piping the red royal icing, press in two googly eyes, add two marshmallows to either side of the base of the head.

RIP chocolate and caramel pots

Makes 6. Prep time: 20 mins. Cool time: 1 hour.

Ingredients
6 Mars bars
500ml double cream
4 tablespoons milk
Small clear drinks cups
Chocolate sprinkles
4 Lotus biscuits
Tube of red royal icing

Method
Step 1: Cut up the Mars bars and put into a bowl with the milk, melt in microwave, checking and stirring regularly until smooth.

Step 2: Put the cream in a large bowl and whisk to stiff peaks, once the Mars bar mix is cool stir in.

Step 3: Put into the small cups and sprinkle with chocolate sprinkles to look like soil, put in the fridge to chill for one hour.

Step 4: To decorate, write RIP by piping the red royal icing on to the top of each biscuit and then stick them into the top of the chocolate and caramel pots.
