Five great things to do with kids in Abu Dhabi during the long weekend

Keep little ones busy with these ideas

Thursday: Watch a film with the family

Cinemas in Abu Dhabi are reopening to the public and VOX Cinemas across the city are already back and showing films. A number of safety procedures and precautions are in place to keep all moviegoers safe when they visit including a maximum capacity of 30 percent, sanitisation of seats between showings, no more physical tickets and more. Inside the theatres, social distancing will be observed, moviegoers will be expected to wear masks at all times. Excited to go to the movies? Keep your eyes peeled to Time Out Abu Dhabi for the latest reviews and releases coming to a cinema near you.

Friday: Enjoy a meal with no phones in sight

The Time Well Spent campaign, launched by the Early Childhood Authority in Abu Dhabi, will see screen-free zones established in some of the city’s most popular restaurants. Diners can chose to participate in the experiment and deposit their phone in a pouch when arriving at the restaurant if they want to try it out. In case of emergencies you can remove your phone from the pouch but you’re asked to step away from the table to use it. After your meal, you can give feedback to help to campaign develop and post a picture on social media using the hashtag #TimeWellSpent (you’ll need your phone back for this part). Participating restaurants in Abu Dhabi backing the campaign include Third Place Café, Sanderson’s, Jones the Grocer and No. FiftySeven Boutique Café. More information is available at each of the venues and by visiting https://eca.gov.ae.

Saturday: Get a free meal for your child

They say the best things in life are free and we couldn’t agree more. Especially when it comes to food as we all know, keeping little tummies full, can be an expensive task. Luckily there are a number of venues in Abu Dhabi offering free meals for kids. So you can tuck in and enjoy a bite and get a complimentary for your kid too. Win win. Here’s where you can get free kids meals in Abu Dhabi this month.

Saturday: Go on a virtual holiday at home

Thought you’d be getting away on holiday this summer? Well, instead of making long lists of what to pack and triple-checking that you have your passport, this year’s great escape couldn’t be easier. Here are some fun family-friendly destinations you can check out without any of the hassle of actually travelling. Bon (virtual) voyage.

Sunday: Have fun at Yas Island’s theme parks

All four of Yas Island’s theme parks are now back open including Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, CLYMB Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld. Whether you want a thrill on a ride, to meet famous characters, make waves or conquer climbing walls there’s loads to keep kids and adults busy at the parks.
