Kids in the UAE can now learn to read Arabic with an Android app

Read Along by Google is aimed at children over five

Budding linguists in the UAE can now learn to read Arabic thanks to an Android app.

Mums and dads can download Read Along by Google from the Google Play store for free.

Kids over five choose from an extensive library of Arabic books and then receive visual and verbal feedback as they practice their reading from an in-app buddy called Diya.

To nurture the love of reading, Diya helps little bookworms by listening and encouraging them in real time.

The virtual teacher also gives them positive and reinforcing feedback along the way just like mums, dads and real-life teachers would do.

Children can also tap Diya at any time if they need help to pronounce a particular word or sentence.

Once downloaded the app can be used offline, has no in-app purchases and can make personalised recommendations based on the child’s progress and encourages them to collect stars, badges and play educational games to help keep them motivated.

The promise is that little ones using the app for 100 minutes over a period of two to three weeks can improve their reading fluency anywhere from 35 percent to 85 percent.
