Private schools in Dubai to return to fully in-person learning

The gradual shift will be complete by Sunday October 3

Private schools in Dubai are gradually returning to fully in-person learning in the 2021-2022 academic year.

Private schools will continue to offer students in-person and remote learning until Sunday October 3, after which students will be expected to return to in-person learning.

Schools will also be allowed to conduct activities on the premises as long as they are in compliance with precautionary measures and social distancing guidelines.

These measures are possible because of the UAE’s vaccination programme, and reflects the success of the vaccination drive and precautionary measures throughout the city.

Some 96 percent of teaching staff are now vaccinated as well as 70 percent of schoolchildren aged 12 to 17.

This update follows on from recent news that unvaccinated students over the age of 12 will need to get weekly PCR tests to attend school.

The new back-to-school rules apply to nurseries and daycare centres, public and private schools and higher education, educational training centres, and institutes across the UAE.

This requirement will be applied within 30 days from the first day of school, giving students the opportunity to get vaccinated. During this period, all students will be required to get a PCR test every two weeks.

After the 30 days are up, unvaccinated students under the age of 12 and vaccinated students over the age of 12 will only need to take one PCR test per month. Unvaccinated students over the age of 12 will need to take weekly PCR tests.
