Grab the gang and go have fun

Why hello there weekend! Looking forward to kicking back and relaxing this weekend, but remember you have kids who need to be doing something? We’ve got you covered.

Here are seven brilliant things to do with the whole family this weekend. You’re welcome.

Art class at Couqley French Bar & Bistro

Between noon and 2pm on Friday March 12 kids five and over can sign up to an art class at Couqley French Bar & Bistro in JLT. Creative children will be encouraged to unleash their inner Andy Warhol by recreating the iconic artist’s Ice Cream painting. The session costs Dhs225 per child and includes a pre-sketched canvas, all the paints and materials they will need to produce their masterpiece as well as juice and a pain perdu for the mini artists. Got more than one kid? You can keep costs down with the five percent sibling discount.
Dhs225 (kids five and above). Fri Mar 12 noon-2pm. Couqley French Bar & Bistro, JLT Cluster A, www.couqley.ae (04 514 9339).

Book a staycation with water park tickets at Swissotel Al Ghurair

Book the hotel’s Laguna Waterpark staycation package and choose from either free tickets for the gang to Laguna Waterpark, or if getting wet isn’t your thing, you can opt for free entry to The Green Planet as part of the package. The Laguna Waterpark staycation package includes a night’s stay and breakfast for the whole family as well as water park access for two adults and two kids and a complimentary shuttle to La Mer Beach. Alternatively, instead of waterpark tickets, you can choose free tickets to The Green Planet at City Walk for two adults and two kids.

Build an ice cream sundae at Urban Fucshia Thai

Kids like it spicy? The Thai Tots menu at Asian eatery Fuchsia Urban Thai will be right up their street. Best of all, every day between noon and 7pm, for every dish they order from the kids menu, they will get the chance to build their own ice cream sundae for free. The BYO dessert comes with a scoop of homemade coconut ice cream and various toppings, such as strawberries, Nutella, M&M’s, almond flakes and mango, which the kids can decorate their sweet concoction with.
Daily noon-7pm. Fuchsia Urban Thai, Bay Square and Barsha Heights, www.fuchsiame.com.

Learn to cook Thai food at Mango Tree Thai Bistro

Mango Tree Thai Bistro has introduced weekly kids’ cookery lessons, meaning that mums and dads can get their kiddos in the kitchen knocking up a delicious Asian supper. Yum. The weekly cookery classes are aimed at kids between six and 12 and will take place at the family-friendly eatery at Hilton Dubai The Walk every Sunday from 4.30pm. Best of all, the Dhs69 you pay per child for the sessions fully redeemable against food and drinks at the Thai eatery either for take away of eat-in. Sounds like a winner to us.

Take part in a reading challenge

To celebrate the Month of Reading, the Emirates Literature Foundation has announced the launch of a fun reading challenge that is open to everyone in the UAE. There are two categories, individual and family, and entries can be in either Arabic or English. To enter, you have to read as many books as you can in one month and share the list of books with a one-line review for each. The family category draws on the theme, My Family Reads, which is this year’s Month of Reading theme and which is all about mums and dads encouraging their little ones to love reading. All books recorded in the family category must be read to or with the same child, but adults can take it in turns with that child.

Intrepid little explorers over four can head off through 100 metres of tunnels where nine different routes will put their navigation skills to the test.
