Green line unlikely to be ready until end of next year

Dubai Metro’s Green Line is unlikely to open until the end of next year as construction firms struggle to meet deadlines, it was reported on Thursday.

The line, originally due to open on March 10 next year, was pushed back to a June deadline earlier this year after contractors appealed to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for more time.

The construction deadline is likely to be pushed back further to the “end of next year”, an official said in comments published by Emirates Business.

Abdul Majid Abdul Razzaq Al Khaja, CEO, Rail Agency, RTA, told the paper: “We are currently discussing with the contractor… chances are that it will be opened by the end of 2010 based on contractors’ requirement.”

He told the paper that plans for the Purple Line are also likely to change.
