Motorists fined for dangerous National day car decorations

UAE police fined an undisclosed number of motorists for over-decorating their cars to celebrate National Day.

The Abu Dhabi Police and Traffic Department would not say how many drivers it fined, according to a report in the National.

An officer told the paper: “Decorating a car is permitted during the National Day holiday, but we told motorists that placing stickers or pictures on mirrors and windows are not allowed. That’s dangerous. We fined everyone who violated the guidelines.”

According to the rules, drivers are not allowed to cover their whole vehicle, use decorations that restrict their view, cover windows and lights, or offend “public decency”. All carry a Dhs200 ($54) penalty.
