James Martin hits Abu Dhabi

UK celebrity chef James Martin considering opening new restaurant in the capital

James Martin might be the next celebrity chef to open a restaurant in the UAE but Abu Dhabi rather than Dubai is likely to be the location.

The chef, a regular on the television in the UK including Saturday Kitchen which is also broadcast in the UAE, has revealed that his future restaurant plans could include the UAE capital.

Speaking to DJ Chris Evans on his Radio 2 show, Martin said that even though he was a big fan of Dubai, an Abu Dhabi restuarant was a “possibility”, without adding any further details.

He referred to the large number of celebrity chefs already operating in Dubai, saying: “It’s like a club out there.”

Among the star names who already have restaurants in Dubai are Gary Rhodes at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Gordon Ramsey’s Verre at Hilton Dubai Creek and while Atlantis, The Palm boasts outlets backed by Nobu Matsuhisa and Ronda Locatelli.

Martin took part in the Taste of Dubai festival for the first time in 2009, demonstrating his skills in the show’s Mark Wilkinson Chefs Theatre and Spinney’s Cookery School.

At the time, Martin said that he had already “had offers for a couple of restaurants”, but said he was waiting until he was certain he could spend enough time on the project.
