Yas Marina Circuit eyes MotoGP race…

Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit is in talks with MotoGP officials in an effort to bring motorcycle racing to the UAE capital, it was reported on Tuesday.

Officials said they have held “positive” talks about adding a round of the motorcycle series to the venue, following the successful inaugural F1 event last year.

If successful, the likes of Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner could be racing at Yas Marina, UAE daily The National reported.

Richard Cregan, chief executive of Yas Marina Circuit, told the paper: Cregan said: “We believe that like Formula One there is room for two MotoGP races in the region. Qatar has led the way by holding a race that has done very well and from our first meeting with MotoGP officials at the end of last year they [the talks] were very positive in terms of securing a race in the future.”

He added that so far there was no set time frame for when Yas could first expect to host a MotoGP race.

The first race of the MotoGP season was held in Qatar on Sunday with Rossi, the world champion, emerging victorious.
