Sharjah labour camp appeal

Do your bit and donate what you can to labourers stranded in Sharjah…

News of the plight of 400 labourers, stranded at their camp in Sharjah, can’t have escaped many of us. Now’s the time to help out.

The 400 men, abandoned in the desert by their employers, initially without food and water and unpaid for six-months, will be able to go home within the next month, as the government has pledged to send them, but they have nothing to show for their time working in Dubai.

Some haven’t been paid for an entire year and all are concerned about the plight of their families back home. The ones they came to the UAE to support. These men do not want to beg, they came here to work.
Okay, so what can you do to help?
Firstly, you can donate items. As far as supplies go, clothes would be top priority: t-shirts, shirts, dhotis, even caps. Towels are requested too. Toiletries-wise: soap, toothpase, toothbrushes are the main requirements. Beyond that prickly heat powder, combs, razor blades, shaving cream.
Secondly, you can donate cash, so that these men have something to take home to their families, when they’re finally able to go home.

Unfortunately, there’s not too much time left. The deadline for supplies/donations is tomorrow, so get your skates on.

The collection point is Shelter in Al-Quoz, near Mall of the Emirates. You an check their website www.shelter.ae or call their front desk 04-4345655 for directions. They’re open from 9am till 10pm.
