Dhabi to help Pakistan flood victims

Red Crescent aims to raise Dhs100 million in three days

Dhabians will be digging deep in their pockets this week in order to raise funds for those affected by the recent floods in Pakistan.

Starting from today, the Red Crescent Authority, as directed by HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is launching a three day media campaign to encourage people to make aid donations – organizers are hoping to raise as much as Dh100 million.

The UAE government campaign is called Awnkum, or ‘your help’ and will be broadcast live from the main newsroom at Abu Dhabi TV, featuring a variety of guests, including ambassadors, soap opera actors, poets and celebrities. Programs will be broadcast at 4-6pm and 9.30-10.30pm today and tomorrow and from 9.30pm to midnight on Friday, including live feeds from Melton, Pakistan’s most affected area.

Viewers will be able to donate funds through the call centre, via text and though a bank account set up by the Red Crescent Authority, which will be in charge of distributing the proceeds in Pakistan.
Various branches of the RCA, and most shopping centres will also be accepting donations.
