World’s best classical musicians to play Dhabi

Acclaimed orchestras and soloists booked for Abu Dhabi Classics series

Ever since the Abu Dhabi Classics season ended in May, lovers of classical music have been waiting all summer for this season’s line-up to be announced.

The anticipation is over as next season’s programme has just been confirmed, and fans of the genre won’t be disappointed, with some of the greatest maestros on the planet booked to appear in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

These include British legend Sir Simon Rattle, arguably the greatest composer in the world, who’ll be leading the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at the Emirates Palace for a selection of Brahms pieces on November 9.

Meanwhile, Chinese cello ace Yo Yo Ma, will be showing off his astounding fingerwork at a recital at Al Ain’s Al Jahili Fort on March 5. He’ll also be playing a selection of works by Richard and Johan Strauss with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI at Emirates Palace on March 3.

The season kicks off on October 6 when the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam – recently voted the best orchestra in the world – play a selection of symphonic masterworks by Mahler at the Emirates Palace.

Other highlights include Tchaikovsky’s Symphonies No. 4 and No. 5 played by the Staatskapelle Berlin Orchestra, which will be led by esteemed Argentinean conductor Daniel Barenboim.

Meanwhile, if you have more mainstream musical tastes, the season will end on May 7 with the BBC Orchestra belting out some classic movie themes and Broadway musical numbers.
