Free events accompany Abu Dhabi gigs

Graffiti artists and kids fun zone sideshows at Yas Island concerts

From now until the end of the year, Abu Dhabi will play host to a succession of huge musical shows and entertainment events. As soon as the F1 finishes, the likes of Nelly Furtado, Jonas Brothers, Guns N’ Roses and the basketball stars from the NBA Jamfest will be appearing in the city. But event organiser Flash Entertainment has just announced that each of these shows will be accompanied by a wealth of free entertainment events.

The so-called Yas Island Show Weekends series of concerts kicks off on November 18 with family-friendly rock siblings the Jonas Brothers. On the following two days at Yas Island’s Gateway Park , (November 19 and 20) there will be a kid’s fun zone followed by breakdance workshops from B-boys Mighty 4, a parade of cartoon characters and an open air cinema showing the Jonas Brothers’ own movie Camp Rock. Nelly Furtardo takes the stage on November 26, while on November 27 street art fans should head to the Flash Forum for a graffiti demonstration.

From December 2-4, the NBA Jamfest basketball show hits town, and throughout the three days there will be an Arabic Village set up in the Yas Plaza hotels area, where you can enjoy traditional music and henna painting. Creamfields on December 9 is followed the next day (December 10) by a much-needed chill out DJ session at Yas Plaza’s hotel pools.

Finally, Guns N’Roses hit town on December 16, while December 17 will see celebrity chef demos at various hotels on Yas Island, and on December 18 there will be a family golf day at Yas Links golf course.
