Leona Lewis no-show at Abu Dhabi F1 bash

British pop singer to be replaced by Sister Sledge at The Ball

Any of you lucky people got tickets to The Ball? The glittering star-fest where you can dance till the early hours alongside the universe’s most glamorous people? If so, you might be crushed by the news that X Factor winner and mega-star Leona Lewis has decided to pull out of the event, due to ‘personal reasons’, according to event organiser Flash Entertainment.

But the blow might be slightly softened by the fact she will be replaced by disco legends Sister Sledge, best remembered for their classic tunes  ‘We Are Family’ and ‘Frankie’. Other artists on the bill, including Grammy-winning singer Sarah McLachlan and British popstress Sophie Ellis Bextor, are still due to play the event. Leona’s pull out comes after the recent cancellation of Lebanese pop queen Nancy Ajram, who was due to appear at the Beats on the Beach free concert on the Corniche.

The Ball will be taking place at the Yas Hotel on November 13, and organisers say supermodels Kate Moss and Claudia Schiffer, actress Liz Hurley and her Indian textile magnate spouse Arun Nayer, acting greats Samuel L Jackson and Uma Thurman, and glamorous television personality Kelly Brook will be attending. Some of Bollywood’s most adored stars are also set to walk the red carpet, including Sohail Khan, Sophie Choudry, Abishek Kapoor and Gairav Batra.

The Ball will be raising money for the Naked Heart Foundation, which supports impoverished children in Russia. For ticket information call 04 444 0742.
