Tiësto announces new Abu Dhabi concert

Dutch DJ reschedules city performance for February

Back in October, the city’s dance music fans were getting ready to gyrate wildly to the trance sounds of Dutch mixmaster Tiësto when the devastating news came in that the gig had been cancelled.

The show at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre was called off just hours before the start due to electrical problems with his elaborate stage equipment, causing health and safety concerns for the organisers Flash Entertainment.

But now they’ve announced that Tiësto will be returning to the city on February 17 for the final gig of his Kaleidoscope tour. However, instead of playing at Adnec, the show will take place at Flash Forum, a specially constructed indoor concert arena on Yas Island.

A spokesman for Flash said: ‘We are delighted that Tiësto has found time in his busy schedule to come back to Abu Dhabi. We have worked hard with Tiësto to reschedule this new date and deliver on our promise, as we know how many people have been looking forward to this.  It is fitting that our first announced event for our 2011 Yas Island Show Weekend is Tiësto – we can’t wait to welcome him back.’

The DJ himself added: ‘This year I have concentrated all my energy on the Kaleidoscope World Tour and Abu Dhabi was a destination I was really looking forward to playing. I can’t wait to return and finally give my fans the show that they have all been waiting for. I plan to have my tour’s last stop in Abu Dhabi and make this show an unforgettable one.’

Tiësto, real name Tijs Michiel Verwest, is one of the world’s biggest DJing names, having sold out stadiums around the world and hitting a global audience of millions after performing at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

The six-hour show starts at 10pm, with tickets costing Dhs150 to Dhs295.
