Help save the planet

This is an issue very close to our hearts, so we’re also concerned to hear that the cans and bottles you have lovingly washed out are being dumped with the ordinary trash

I am an avid recycler and thought I was doing my bit by regularly dropping off my recyclables in the designated bins provided outside our complex. But recently I found out that all this waste just gets thrown out with the normal rubbish. I’m keen to do my bit, so could you please tell me other places I can recycle in the city?

This is an issue very close to our hearts, so we’re also concerned to hear that the cans and bottles you have lovingly washed out are being dumped with the ordinary trash.

Although the recycling rate in Abu Dhabi is painfully slow at the moment, there are plans to change all this. For a start, there are ongoing pilot schemes for kerbside recycling in parts of Khalidiyah and Bain Al Jessrain, which could be rolled out to further places if proven successful.

Eelsewhere, there are a handful of recycling points across the city. These include the lobby of Adnec, which is good for dumping your used paper, glass, aluminium and plastic, and there’s also one outside the Adco Building (next to the Hilton Abu Dhabi on the Corniche) and in the grounds of the Abu Dhabi Municipality Building on Salam Street, although the mayhem of the tunnel building project makes this a massive mission for you to dump your used bottles. We also noticed some gleaming new bins on a recent visit to Jones the Grocer in Muroor (behind National Bank of Abu Dhabi, on the corner of 4th and 15th streets).

Finally, authorities have also announced plans to put recycling bins in every Adnoc filling station in the city within the next few months, so there’s hope out there for you budding eco-warriors.
