New Saadiyat show announced

Splendours of Mesopotamia replaces RSTW at Abu Dhabi exhibition space

Drawing rave reviews from critics across the Middle East, pop art showcase RSTW ought to remain a topic of after-dinner conversation for Abu Dhabi’s culture crowd for many years to come. Following it up, therefore, was never going to be an easy task.

Perhaps wisely, then, TDIC has gone for a totally different angle for Manarat Al Saadiyat’s latest show, swapping contemporary icons for ancient artefacts with ‘Splendours of Mesopotamia’. The new exhibition, which opens on March 29 and runs until June 27, has been billed as a glimpse into the history of a region key to the formation of human civilisation (Mesopotamia covers modern Iraq and parts of Syria), enlisting the help of The British Museum to bring a number of significant discoveries to the capital. All of which ought to lend Saadiyat Island some much needed cultural clout, ahead of the opening of Zayed National Museum in 2014.
