Horror flick set for Abu Dhabi shoot

Texas Chainsaw Massacre director to make film in UAE

The director behind such nerve-wrenching classics at Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist and Salem’s Lot has announced his next film will be filmed in the UAE.

Tobe Hooper, who has been nominated for three Academy Awards, will begin shooting Dijinn later this month. The movie tells the nightmarish story of a young Emirati couple who return home from the US to discover that their new luxury apartment built on the site of an abandoned fishing village is home to the malevolent beings known as djinn.

Emirati director Nayla Al Khaja, who has made numerous short films, will work as a cultural consultant on Dijinn. Khaja will shadow Hooper on the set and train with him in preparation to make her first feature length horror film.

The film is being produced by UAE company Imagenation Abu Dhabi.
