Monthly market and fair launched at Masdar City

Event to give public first glimpse of green-friendly development

On the outskirts of Abu Dhabi, close to the airport, one of the most sustainable urban developments on the planet is taking shape. When finished, Masdar City aims to be a zero-waste, zero-carbon city that will rely on solar energy and other renewable sources for its power.

On the 29th of this month, the public will be given the opportunity to check out how it’s progressing with a family-focussed street fair and organic market on the site. The Market@Masdar City, which takes place from 10am-5pm at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, will allow people a ride on Masdar’s electric driverless Personal Rapid Transport (PRT) pod cars for the first time.

You’ll also be able to buy organic food market, organic beauty and spa products, recycled stationary, arts and crafts and jewellery, while kids will be able to enjoy face painting (with organic paints we presume) and games.
Alan Frost, director of Masdar City, said, ‘Masdar City is open to the public and is a living example of what Abu Dhabi can achieve and its commitment to sustainable living. We encourage people to begin sharing the Masdar experience and to be part of the historic development in creating one of the world’s most sustainable cities. The ‘Market @ Masdar City’ is a good recreational and educational opportunity for visitors to see how sustainability can be brought to life – not only at Masdar City, but to the entire Abu Dhabi community.’
