Abu Dhabi ’18th best city the world’

Capital scores highly in Cities of Opportunity survey

You probably already knew that Abu Dhabi’s a fantastic city, but now it’s been officially confirmed by a new survey. Accountancy firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers’ study, Cities of Opportunity, placed the city as the 18th best place to live in the world.

The city was ranked in 10 categories, all of which reflect various aspects of life in Abu Dhabi. The city scored highly in air quality, competitiveness of tax rates, ease of hiring and employment rates. It lost points in carbon footprint, although this was explained by the harsh environment in the UAE.

The report also cited the explosion of growth the emirate in the past 10 years and the issues that have arisen from this, including traffic congestion and lack of waste recycling facilities. Everything indicates that rapid growth in the population will continue over the next twenty years, although the report also praised the emirate for the steps being taken to counteract problems found during growth.

In the survey, New York gained the top place, Toronto came second, San Francisco third and Stockholm fourth.
