Adnoc petrol stations are considering the return of self-service petrol pumps in the capital.
It would see half the Adnoc pumps converted to system, so motorists could operate and pay for fuel themselves. An incentive scheme would reward those who fill their own tanks with points used for food and water.
Drivers will still have the option to be served by an attendant.
Adnoc introduced self-service pumps in Abu Dhabi about three years ago, but the initiative proved unpopular and pumps were converted back after a few months.
Some exploited the system to get away without paying for fuel, while others removed credit cards before the transaction was complete.
