Rock legend Eric Clapton to play in Dubai

‘Slowhand’ to make Dubai debut in Media City next March

Rock legend Eric Clapton is to play in Dubai for the first time next year.

The renowned British guitarist and singer will perform at Dubai Media City on Thursday March 6.

Over a five-decade career Clapton, now 68, has etched his way firmly into the annals of rock history. As well as picking up 17 Grammy Awards, in 2011 Clapton was crowned as second greatest guitarist in the world ever – after Jimi Hendrix – by influential Rolling Stone magazine.

Rising to notoriety in the 1960s playing with seminal blues acts The Yardbirds and John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Clapton was hailed early as one of the greatest electric players the world had seen, attracting reverential graffiti from fans across the streets of London.

Later as a member of rock supergroups Cream, Blind Faith and his own Derek and the Dominoes, Slowhand’s reputation was secured as one of the most influential guitarists in rock history.

Since 1970 Clapton has continued to shine, both in collaborations with veterans bluesmen BB King and JJ Cale, and across a storied solo career which has produced radio anthems including ‘Wonderful Night’ and ‘Tears in Heaven’.

Clapton was last spotted in the UAE in 2011, performing a double header with Steve Wonder on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island that went down a storm, and we’re expecting this Dubai debut to be no different.

Tickets for the gig will go on sale via Time Out Tickets soon.
