Design unveiled for new Yas Arena

Glittering 18,000 seater venue revealed as part of Dhs12 billion island revamp

This is the first glimpse of a state-of-the-art new arena that is ready to take centre stage in Yas Island. The 18,000 capacity Yas Arena will be the striking centrepiece of the massive Dhs12billion overhaul of the southern side of Yas Island spearheaded by developers Miral.

The vibrant spot’s illuminated lantern façade looks sure to provide the capital with another stunning landmark, and that’s before we even find out what top musical acts and sporting events it will be hosting.

Global architecture firm HOK are part of the team who have masterminded the eye-catching arena design, which will play a vital role in Miral’s vision to transform Yas Island into a truly global destination.

John Rhodes, a director of Hok’s Sport, Recreation and Entertainment team, said: “Our goal is to create an exceptional entertainment experience for fans and spectators.

“Yas Arena will be the centerpiece of the development and serve as a destination on Yas Island.

“Our team knew the building needed to be smart, adaptable and technologically-advanced in order to efficiently transform for the wide variety of events the client wished to host.

“This transformability will make Yas Arena one of the most sophisticated arenas in the world.”

The impressive arena can be used as both an intimate 500-seat theatre as well as an 18,000-capacity venue which will play host to world class acts.

Additional attractions, including food and beverage, will be located adjacent to the arena to create a buzzing entertainment hub that stretches down the waterfront promenade.

The first view of the arena comes hot on the heels of the news that hotel giants Hilton are to open a five star resort in Yas Bay.

Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island, which is set to open its doors in 2019, will be in the heart of Yas Bay, a vibrant three kilometre stretch that is being primed to become one of the most iconic waterfront destinations in the Middle East. The resort will boast 641 rooms, a multi-purpose conference centre, seven dining outlets and an innovative urban beach concept with an infinity pool suspended above the waters of the Arabian Gulf.

The Yas Bay project will also feature an entertainment district and an all-new media zone, a residential area which will be home to 15,000 people, a pier, more than 20 shops, a beach club and the 18,000-capacity Yas Arena, to be operated by Flash Entertainment. The waterfront promenade will be lined with a variety of shops, cafés and restaurants.

Miral has already invested Dhs4 billion into the first phase of the 320-acre development, which will also include a state-of-the-art, 3.2 million-square-foot campus, and will become the home of the capital’s media hub, twofour54.

Jonathan Brown, development director of Miral Asset Management, said: “The development of the UAE’s first 18,000 capacity-arena will place Yas Island among the leaders for performance and events venues.

“We’re proud to set a new benchmark in the industry as we provide visitors with even bigger and better events to enjoy—all of which will perfectly showcase Yas Island’s excellence and energy.”
