Pakistan V Australia news

Brett Lee and Andrew Symonds recalled for Dubai clash

Australia is obviously taking its UAE cricket Spring showdown against Pakistan seriously.

The team has recalled two of its biggest stars, Brett Lee and Andrew Symonds, to play in the five match one-day Series and one-off Twenty:20 match against Pakistan, to be held in Dubai in two weeks time.

Brett Lee has recovered from an ankle and foot operation, and Andrew Symonds is also included in the 14 man squad having been recently left out due to off-field issues.

Lee has taken more than 300 one-day international wickets, while Symonds has smashed over 5,000 runs during his one-day international career to date.

“Lee and Symonds remain two of the most destructive players in world cricket,” said former Australian wicket-keeper Rod Marsh, who is now the Director of Coaching at the ICC Global Cricket Academy, based at Dubai Sports City. “They will both have a point to prove as they hope to cement their place back in the side ahead of the World Twenty:20 and the Ashes.”

“It will be great to see Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar trying to establish who is the fastest bowler in the world, and if Andrew Symonds gets going I would advise everyone in the crowd to keep a close eye on the ball, because it could flying way back into the stands,” he added.

Australia has recently regained its title as the best one-day side in the world having beaten South Africa in Durban, to set up a mouth-watering Series.

Michael Clarke will captain the Australian side that also includes Brad Haddin, Nathan Bracken, Ben Hilfenhaus and David Hussey.
