Swine Flu in Bahrain

Student returning from US brings Swine Flu to Bahrain

A Bahraini student returning from a trip to New York has been confirmed as having the first case of the swine flu in Bahrain, health ministry sources said.

The case was confirmed after the 21-year-old man, who was earlier cleared by health ministry specialists, was given a new test with equipment and kits recently arrived in Bahrain.

“The tests lasted around six hours and confirmed that the young man had the flu. He is now recovering thanks to his positive response to the Tamiflu treatment. He will remain in the ward for further monitoring and treatment,” Adel Ali Abdullah, the health ministry spokesman, said.

Earlier suspected cases of a British woman and an American man who had tested negative were also reviewed with the new equipment, but both tested negative again, the spokesman said.
