Gulf job market recovering

Monster Gulf upbeat about employment trends throughout the Gulf

Tentative signs of a recovery in the Gulf jobs market are now being seen, according to careers network Monster Gulf.

Employers in the finance, construction and hospitality sectors are starting to hire again with the number of job listings posted on the Monster Gulf website rising by 18 percent in June compared with a month earlier.

Sanjay Modi, Monster Gulf’s MD for India, Middle East and South East Asia told the National newspaper: ”If you look at the job postings, it clearly indicates the market is recovering.”

He added: ”The uptrend is clearly visible in the last three months. Job postings in the construction sector in the UAE alone have risen by 20 percent, while there has been a 13 percent increase in the job listings posted by construction contractors in Saudi Arabia in June.”

The agency is upbeat about employment trends throughout the Gulf region this year.

”The good thing is that the majority of listings are of middle-to-senior management positions with six to 10 years’ experience,” Modi told the newspaper. ”This solidifies our belief that there is some light at the end of the tunnel.”
