5 movies to see in UAE cinemas this weekend

Kristen Stewart stars as Princess Diana

Love going to the movies? Us too.

It’s finally the weekend, and that means UAE cinemas have a whole whack of new films for us to get stuck into.

Whether you’re a buy-everything-you-can-carry-from-the-snacks-counter or sneak-your-food-in kind of person (we would never, we swear) you’re going to want to get these films on your radar.

Spencer

Love a historical drama? Captivated by Princess Diana’s story? (Who isn’t?) In Spencer, Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage has long since grown cold, and rumours of affairs and a divorce abound. Yet peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. The film imagines what might have happened during those few fateful days. Directed by Pablo Larrain and written by Steven Knight, the film stars Kristen Stewart as Diana.

The Addams Family 2

So, we might be in denial about the end of spooky season. If you are too, then this film is the perfect way to wave goodbye to fright night. Sequel to the 2019 animated film, The Addams Family, this sequel is also the perfect choice for anyone looking for something fun to watch with the kiddos. They’re creepy and they’re kooky… who can resist the Addams Family?

Venom

We love Marvel movies, and there have been some serious hits in UAE cinemas this year (we’re still reeling from Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Black Widow). We’ll definitely be making time this weekend to see Venom, which released on Thursday October 14. The film stars Tom Hardy as one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters. It was directed by Andy Serkis, and stars Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris and Woody Harrelson, in the role of the villain Cletus Kasady aka Carnage. We’re ready.
Out now. Rated PG13.

Last Night in Soho

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been obsessed with Anya Taylor-Joy since she starred in the Netflix hit series, The Queen’s Gambit. Ready for a surreal flick featuring this star? Last Night in Soho follows a young fashion students named Eloise, played by Thomasin McKenzie, who is obsessed with all things ‘60s. Habouring a “sixth sense” she moves to London and forms a strange connection across time with Sandie, played by Taylor-Joy – a dazzling young woman who dreams of becoming a star. We’re prepared to be creeped.
Out now. Rated PG15.

Dune

If you haven’t seen Dune yet, you should absolutely see it this weekend (what are you waiting for?). The film follows a gifted man who is destined for greatness on a planet that is only slightly terrifying. Oh, and giant sandworms go about snacking on the characters, so be ready to hold onto your popcorn. Dune has historically failed to sparkle on the silver screen, but director Denis Villeneuve looks to have hit the mark at last. A mega film you definitely can’t avoid any longer.
