The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two

Final episode of vampire love story promises more of the same

Do you really need us to tell you what it’s about? Okay, here goes. Following the birth of their first child, during which Bella would have died had Edward not finally elected to ‘change’ her, the vampire husband-and-wife team must battle against a league of vampires, all claiming that the baby is a monster that cannot be allowed to live. So the stage is set for the final showdown. At this point in the franchise, a trip to the cinema is strictly for Twi-hards, of whom there were more than 2,000 camping outside the venue of the film’s premiere in LA in a frenzy of anticipation, days before the event.

If you do bag a ticket, expect more of the usual SFX, lip-wobbling melodrama, triangular love stories, overdetermined plotting, glittery make-up and not-really-trying-that-hard performances. Even in the hands of a director as talented as Bill Condon (the man who brought us Gods and Monsters and Kinsey), Breaking Dawn – Part One failed to be much of an improvement over previous episodes. Somehow, we doubt this one will break the mould.
