Dune looks set to be an instant classic

A trio of cracking new movies are being screened for the first time in the UAE this weekend, and we’re just a bit excited about the new arrivals.

The hotly-anticipated sci-fi thriller Dune is rolling for the first time at VOX cinemas, but it’s not the only flick making its debut today.

Here are three movies hitting the big screen this weekend in the UAE that you definitely need tickets for.

Dune

A monster of sci-fi literature that has so far failed to sparkle on the silver screen, Dune is getting another swing of the bat thanks to director Denis Villeneuve. Dune follows a gifted man destined for greatness on a planet that is far from perfect, with violent forces clashing in a gold-rush to claim the world’s most precious resource, a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential. Oh, and giant sandworms go about snacking on the cast, so be ready for a bit of everything.
Released Sep 23. Rated PG13.

Midnight in the Switchgrass

Megan Fox, Bruce Willis, Emile Hirsch, Lukas Haas and Colson Baker – an ensemble that will get you watching any flick, am I right? – star in this true-to-life movie about Texas’ most dangerous person. An FBI agent and Florida State officer join forces, teaming up to trail a sling of unsolved cases in the pursuit of justice.
Released Sep 23. Rated 15+

Willy’s Wonderland

Nicolas Cage has starred in his fair share of riotous, completely daft but absolutely belting movies down the years, and this could be one for the ages. After having car trouble, that man Nicky agrees to offset repair costs in return for cleaning a derelict amusement park. Before long, the fun centre’s animatronic mascots burst into life, chasing down the intruding Cage in an hilarious rage against the machine.
Released Sep 23. Rated 15+
