Best Sellers

Whether you’re a book-nerd, work in publishing, or love comedy-dramas, you should probably check out this film. Best Sellers is a film directed by Lina Roessler and written by Anthony Grieco. It stars Michael Caine, Aubrey Plaza, Scott Speedman and Ellen Wong. To save her publishing company, an editor (Aubrey Plaza) goes on a wild book tour with a chaotic has-been author (Michael Caine) who first put her company on the map. What could go wrong?

C’mon C’mon

Written and directed by Mike Mills, C’mon C’mon is a film about a radio journalist who takes a cross-country journey with his nephew to show him a life away from Los Angeles. Shot in black and white, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Gabby Hoffmann and Woody Norman. It has already received critical acclaim.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

That’s right, Harry Potter is on the big screen. Prepare yourself for the wave of nostalgia that’s sure to come. Head to the movies (possibly in Hogwarts robes) from Thursday January 20 and you can see Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. If you aren’t already familiar with the film first in the series, it’s about an orphaned boy who discovers he has special powers. He’s brought to a special school where he learns about the secrets of his past.

Nightmare Alley

Looking for a nail-biter this weekend? Nightmare Alley is an American neo-noir psychological thriller film. It is based on the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham. Set in the 1940s, the movie tells the story of a con man who plans to trick a dangerous tycoon with the aid of a mysterious psychiatrist. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Toni Collette, Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett. It is directed by Guillermo del Toro, who also directed Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water, and the screenplay was written by by del Toro and Kim Morgan.

Scream

Ghostface is back so prepare to, um, scream. A new killer has donned the Ghostface mask, and he or she is targeting a group of local teenagers. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette return to their iconic roles to help the teens stay alive. This latest slasher film looks a little grimmer than previous versions, so prepare yourself for a thrill.
