The Oscars are back to normal this year – or as close to normal as an event that once featured an actual ‘mani cam’ can get – and it’s inching closer to its traditional early-year home after a shift back to late April in 2021.
The awards takes place today, Sunday March 27 – still later than normal, partly to avoid a clash with the Winter Olympics – and take residence again in its traditional contemporary home of Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
The exciting, eclectic list of nominees should make for compelling viewing on the night, too. Will Best Picture go to the hot favourite, The Power of the Dog, or the polarising Don’t Look Up? Will Benedict Cumberbatch win an acting Oscar at the second time of asking? And will Flee win an unprecedented Best Documentary and Best Animation double? There will be a tonne of juicy subplots and no doubt, some contentious winners to argue over, so stay tuned for more.

Who isn’t hosting? The Oscar producers have again steered away from a single presenter(s) and gone with a megamix of famous types to, they hope, draw in a younger TV audience. They include – deep breath – Stephanie Beatriz, DJ Khaled, Jennifer Garner, H.E.R., Tiffany Hadish, Tony Hawk, Bill Murray, Elliot Page, Kelly Slater and Shaun White.
