Spinning the LP of supermodel/wife of Jack ‘White Stripes’ White, you’d never imagine Elson was an Oldham lass born and bred. Her songs sound authentically Southern gothic folk – all woebegotten slide guitars, spectral, wounded harmonies and Hammond organ burbles (particularly on the fantastic sway of ‘Pretty Babies’ and the title track) Elson’sWhite-produced debut is an accomplished, rather charming collection.
