Jack Johnson music review

Surfer dude. Gazillion unit shifter

To the Sea Island
3/5

Surfer dude. Gazillion unit shifter. You and your square-jawed American handsome face, your idyllic childhood in Hawaii, your do-gooder tendencies (Johnson donates 100 per cent of his tour profits to charity). You, who married your university sweetheart and effortlessly delivers perky piano and harmonica tunes and sunset-warm acoustic ditties. Hard to believe he was once a fan of hardcore punk band Minor Threat. Johnson’s fifth record is musically more of the same, with the 34-year-old ruminating on fatherhood (he has three kids). It’s too hard to hate him, so you may as well order a piña colada and chill out.
