Detroit techno meets epic house in a globe-trotting album

Eye Contact
4/5

‘Adult Goth’ caught our attention first. Not only because it sounds like the sub-section of a Soho bookshop (and probably is), but because of its groovy appropriation of Diwali-style melodies, wedded to what sounds like an epic, housed-up version of the Ipcress File theme, as played by Muse. This 10-year-old NYC crew’s terrific, globe-trotting fifth album has a stronger melodic focus but, alongside ‘MindKilla’ (Kate Bush fronts ‘Yeasayer’ for a foray into Detroit techno), there’s the tripped-out ‘Glass Jar’, perfect for watching the sun set in an Ibizan bar.
