Sophie Ellis-Bextor album review

Murder on the Dancefloor singer is back

Make a Scene
3/5

Back with her first record in four years, the UK’s poshest popstrel has produced another brace of slick, melodically addictive dance-pop tunes. With collaborators including Cathy Dennis (of course), Armin Van Buuren (the glittering disco-house hit ‘Not Giving Up on Love’), Calvin Harris (the synth-throbbed ‘Off & On’) and Freemasons among others, SEB and her smooth vocals can come off fembot-esque, but slo-mo love song ‘Synchronised’ pushes her to new emotions. Best of all is the title track: a squelchy synth-and-sax Metronomy collaboration.
