Kaiser Chiefs album review

The Future is Medieval allows fans to pick tracklist

The Future is Medieval
2/5

The Chiefs’ idea to let fans choose their own tracklist from two albums’ worth of material, design the art and make cash from each sale of their creation is certainly innovative. If only the 20 songs they have to choose from weren’t one long, dated, Britpop blur. Okay, so it does vary in tempo and effects, hinting at Mansun’s Six with misplaced guitar solos and bottle-like percussion. But ‘Little Shocks’ builds to a flat chorus, rather than heady explosions, while ‘Starts with Nothing’ apes Stone Roses atmospherics. We say have fun with the concept, but don’t lose any sleep over the tunes.
