Father, Son, Holy Ghost
3/5
Last year’s mini-album was a clear indicator that the San Francisco duo had moved on from the ramshackle insta-pop of their ’09 debut. This full-length finds Chris Owens and Chet White exploring more new territory; namely proggy, psych-rock-riffing, organ-stomped gospel and flute-flecked easy listening. ‘Honey Bunny’ perks things up with a ’60s surf jangle, as singer Owens searches for a girl who digs his ‘bony body’. She is out there – somewhere – but, for now, tussles with his heart serve him well.
