Karaoke in Abu Dhabi

So, you think you can sing? Prove it with some karaoke in Abu Dhabi

There are several spots in the city where budding stars can have a shot at singing their hearts out in front of a crowd. We check out the amateur scene and visit the best karaoke joints in town.

Music plays a crucial role in most people’s lives. Despite the differing tastes and wide choice of genres, we have all heard a song that has prompted us to belt out the tune at the top of our lungs. While most of us might keep these noisy incidents secret, some prefer to hit the stage and attempt a performance in front of other people. We scoped out some places in the city where you and your friends could hog the microphone for a few numbers.

Whether you have been complimented on your singing abilities or have been bribed for your promised silence, karaoke can be a fun experience if you are at ease and in good company. There are a few spots around town that can cater to your level and we found these gems for the brave souls among you.

Stars ’n’ Bars: Every Sunday, this vibrant location hosts ‘Killer Karaoke’. Those who brave the spotlight and perform a song are rewarded with a short beverage. The crowd is lively and the evening attracts a lot of decent amateur talent, so if you have been booed by your parents, this is probably not the place to try out your ‘unique’ rendition of Nina Simone’s ‘I Put A Spell On You’.

Sura: This cute and modern little eatery in the Cristal Salam hotel has two private rooms that you can rent out. Each room can hold up to 13 people and once the door is closed, you can try out some classic and modern tunes as you sing along with the screen. Renting a karaoke room will set you back Dhs174 and the rooms are available until midnight. This is a great place for the slightly timid, because you can practise in the company of good friends who will, hopefully, be nothing but supportive.

There is no fee, however you pay for what you order at the bar and you can enjoy an evening
of raw talent. The karaoke session starts at 7pm and runs until 11.30pm, after which a DJ takes over with some chilled out beats.

B-Lounge by Beachcomber: With a gorgeous outdoor amphitheatre set up, arabesque cushions and soft bubble lights, this venue is a prime place for the serious performers. This is a step up from karaoke, as there is no screen and no solo shows, but bands can have a shot at performing original or cover material in front of a crowd. Things kick off on the first Saturday of each month and performers take the stage from 6pm-11pm.
