Band profile: Transit

New Jazz Bar residents arrive direct from Kuala Lumpur

The Jazz Bar’s newest band, Transit, have been Abu Dhabi for a month after a run in Kuala Lumpur. We sat down with the seven-piece maestros.

What is playing in Abu Dhabi like compared to other places?
Jay (drums): I think the crowd here are pretty open to music, we get an older audience so we try to adjust according to the people.

How do you keep up your energy?
JD (bass): We like what we do so it’s not hard to find the energy to come to work. For us, it’s like, yes! We are going to play some music today.

Are you a fan of any of the other bands in Abu Dhabi?
Jafar (sax):
We are quite new and need to rehearse a lot too, so we don’t get a lot of time at the moment to go see bands.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?
Jude (vocals):
That’s a good question… honestly, maybe trying to please everybody. JD: Everywhere we go in the world, we try to please as many people as we can.
Jay: Being away from family too, it’s hard to be away from friends and family.

What’s your most requested song?
Jafar: ‘Hotel California’… that and Bob Marley are the most requested.
