Selena Gomez at Dubai Music Week

We profile the pop princess causing waves across the world

A former Disney Channel star, Gomez cut her celebrity teeth at a young age with appearances in shows such as Hannah Montana. This year saw Justin Bieber’s former sweetheart release her debut album Stars Dance, from which the lead single ‘Come & Get It’ reached the US top ten (and has over 120 million hits on YouTube). Not a bad stab at the transition from child star to pop princess.

Key track

Selena Gomez – ‘Come & Get It’
Production-wise, the kitchen sink has been thrown at this debut single. With hints of reggae, Bollywood-synth effects and electro-pop vocals – it seems Selena’s afraid of no genre. Yet, there’s an instantly memorable chorus and a catchy melody, so despite the cacophony of sounds, it still manages to tick the right infectious pop boxes.
Selena will be bringing her Stars Dance World Tour show to Dubai Music Week. Dhs550-Dhs2,200. 10pm, September 27, Dubai World Trade Centre Arena, Sheikh Zayed Road, www.ticketmaster.ae
