Club SO-HI’s new resident table turner is fresh from the Ibiza summer party season and ready to take over the Abu Dhabi club scene.
What made you decide to come to Abu Dhabi?
After playing in Ibiza and Gran Canaria for so many years, I just really wanted to try something new and play music for a new crowd. The opportunity to come to Abu Dhabi came up and it was perfect for me so I didn’t even need to think about it, I decided to come over straight away.
How would you describe your sound?
My sound consists of electronic and progressive house music. But I also I like to play a bit of everything, depending on what crowd I’m playing to and what they demand. I don’t always play the same music, whoever I’m playing for.
Are you going to be bringing a sound to Abu Dhabi that we haven’t heard before?
Unfortunately in Abu Dhabi commercial music is still king, so for the most part that’s what I will be playing. I will introduce new music gradually to clubbers here though, and try to get the Abu Dhabi crowd more excited about new sounds.
Where has been your favourite city to play in so far?
Ibiza by far, it’s the centre of the universe for people who love dance music. What happens in Ibiza stays in Ibiza though, so I can’t tell you any stories.
Do you have any heroes in music?
Yes a few. Marco Carola is the best electronic DJ at the moment in my eyes. ZEED and Axwell are two other progressive house DJs that I think are great. And finally Avicii is excellent, and he has done really well commercially as well so he is someone to look up to.
Is there any particular track you’ve been playing more than any of the others recently?
No. I play a bit of everything, I don’t have a track that I play more than others. There are obviously always some big songs around, but if the crowd knows what you are going to play before they hear it then that is just going to make them bored, so I try to avoid that.
What can we expect from a typical DJ Jose RC night?
I listen to the people I’m playing for, I will play what the crowd wants and make sure the atmosphere is always amazing. So it’s going to be great. Come down and check it out for sure.
