A trip from Dubai to Al Ain and vice versa will be much faster and easier in the near future, as His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has approved the project.
The Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) Dhs2 billion project will improve the trip between the two emirates with several highways, such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road and Emirates Road.
The scheme is set to improve road intake from 6,000 to 12,000 vehicles per hour, as well as cut transit time from Emirates Road interchange to Oud Metha Street from 16 to eight minutes, according to the project.
RTA’s project works also include upgrading six interchanges as well as constructing new bridges and service roads on both sides.
The improvements will also double the number of lanes from three to six lanes in each direction over a 17km sector.
Now approved, construction on the road will be split into two phases, with the first (worth Dhs1.3bn) spans 7km from the interchange of Emirates Road to the interchange of the Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
This phase includes upgrading the junction with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, decreasing the amount of traffic.
Works include constructing four ramps to serve traffic movement in four directions, which is planned to be completed in the first quarter of 2020.
Phase 1 also covers upgrading the interchange of Emirates Road by constructing a flyover crossing Dubai-Al Ain Road to serve westbound traffic from Dubailand to Dubai.
As for the second phase (Dhs748m), it includes extending 10km from the interchange of the Mo-hammed bin Zayed Road up to the interchange of Bu Kadra and Ras Al Khor Street, along with up-grading the Nad Al Sheba interchange.
When this project is complete, it means residents of Dubai will be able to quickly head on over to Wadi Adventure, which right now is offering kids free entrance for the rest of summer.
