UAE National Symphony Orchestra reveals exciting concerts

Enjoy music from Mozart to Sinatra this year in Dubai and Abu Dhabi

If you’re a fan of classical sounds, grand performances and big gala events, you’re in for a treat with the UAE’s National Symphony Orchestra’s (NSO) new season.

Following last year’s successful programme, the NSO has announced six different concerts scheduled across a variety of venues in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

First up on Friday September 20, guest conductor Simon Hilberding brings La Dolce Vita to the capital’s Manarat Al Saadiyat Auditorium for a special matinee and gala concert.

NSO strings will perform a cross-over concert of popular classical and contemporary favourites, including Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Bach’s Air on a G String and even Zoosters Breakout from the film Madagascar.

On Friday October 4, music director Andrew Berryman returns to lead the NSO Symphony Orchestra for their ninth season with Hooray for Hollywood at Emirates Palace Auditorium.

Playing Oscar-winning blockbuster film scores from the past and present, expect everything from the magic of Harry Potter to the captivating adventures of Superman. There will also be themes from Pirates of the Caribbean, The Piano, Star Wars, The King’s Speech and much more. Definitely one for music and film fans alike.

What other shows can you expect throughout the season? First off, Sinatra’s Back in Town is coming for a Valentine’s Gala Concert with the NSO Big Band and guests in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Then there’s Mostly Mozart, which unsurprisingly brings Mozart’s “most-thrilling orchestra music”. Although, audiences should expect a few other surprises at the show.

Fancy dressing up? The NSO’s Red Dress Gala, a social event dinner-dance held back-to-back in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, will have special performances from the NSO Dance Band in support of Women’s Heart Disease Awareness.

Finally, Babar the Elephant and Revolting Rhymes will come to life in the NSO’s children’s special, all to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE.

“An exciting season lies ahead for the NSO in 2019 and 2020, with a lively programme showcasing our commitment to working with a diverse roster of guest artists while also supporting the wealth of local talent”, said NSO founder Janet Hassouneh.

“Every performance will feature musical contributions from UAE-based artists, whether a composer, solo singer or musician. I can’t think of a better opening to the season than with a dynamic performance of the classic La Dolce Vita, which perfectly sets the tone for what is to come.”

Committed to becoming the region’s leading orchestra, NSO is made up of more than 100 musicians of 20 different nationalities, all to promote music within the UAE for current and future generations.

If you’re a fan of the epic that is Gladiator, Dubai Opera is giving you the chance to see and hear the Academy Award-winning classic performed live.
