UAE ranked in top 25 fastest fixed broadband speeds in the world

New data reveals the UAE has jumped up 16 places in one month

If you’ve been cruising through the internet in the UAE with ease, you’d be right to think it’s fast. In fact, so fast that it’s now jumped through the rankings as one of the speediest in the world.

A new study by Ookla, which specialises in internet testing, data and analysis, has revealed the UAE has the fastest fixed broadband speed and connectivity in the Middle East region, and is now ranked 25th in the world.

In one month, the UAE has jumped 16 spots according to the speed test global index, making it 25 globally out of 177 countries.

The index revealed the fixed broadband network speed in the UAE is set at 88.35mbps.

“The advancement in connectivity and infrastructure is a result of the leadership’s vision that helped drive the growth of ICT across all sectors and segments of the economy and society,” said director general of the UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, according to Arabian Business.

“UAE is also ranked number one for Fibre to the Home (FTTH) penetration across the world for a third year in a row. I take this occasion to thank the national telecom operators, Etisalat and Du for their contribution to the UAE leadership and competitiveness. They have recently doubled the speed for businesses and consumers which led to increase in business productivity in the country.”

While broadband speeds are on the rise, mobile networks are as well, thanks to Etisalat’s first UAE 5G mobile device with speeds of up to 1Gbps.

Earlier this year, Etisalat also offered a free upgrade that doubled customers broadband speed, offering speeds up to 1Gbps for both business and home subscribers.

The faster, the better.
