Abu Dhabi Airport announces closure of Downtown City Terminal

Changes are taking place to improve passenger experiences

It’s exciting times for travel in Abu Dhabi as we count down to the opening of the new Midfield Terminal at Abu Dhabi Airport.

What we already know about the new terminal is that it will be the first 5G connected airport in the region, it will feature 65 gates and will cater to 30 million passengers a year and 8,500 passengers per hour.

Aiming to provide a better experience for passengers flying out of the capital, Abu Dhabi Airport has closed its City Terminal, located in Al Zahiyah, from today (October 3).

Previously, passengers could check in for their flight on a number of airlines including Etihad Airways at the Downtown location.

The remote check-in service allowed tourists and residents to drop their luggage and make their way to the airport for their flight by bus transfer or other means of transportation.

Passengers flying out on Abu Dhabi will now have to check in their luggage at the airport before departing.

Abu Dhabi Airport announced that the move was to ‘provide passengers with a streamlined and comfortable experience’ when travelling away from the UAE.

The move comes as Al Zahiyah has seen major redevelopment and investment to modernise the popular area and reduce traffic congestion.

All this talk of flying is making us want to book a holiday.

We’ll see you in the departure lounge.
