UAE-founded mobile app Ekar has partnered with Masdar to launch a fleet of electronic vehicles that you can hire.
Five Tesla Model X and S, are available for hire by the minute from Masdar City so you can try a top of the range electronic vehicle without having to purchase one.
Once you hire the car from Masdar City you will be able to return it to the nearest charging station to be available for the next customer.
The app, available for Apple and Android devices, allows you to search for vehicles and hire them in moments across Abu Dhabi.
Prices are displayed on the app and is charged by the minute depending on the model of car you select to hire.
“Masdar City installed the first rapid charging station for electric vehicles in the Middle East,” said Yousef Baselaib, executive director of Sustainable Real Estate at Masdar.
“At Masdar, we recognise the value of car-sharing to our community, both economically and in terms of its reduced environmental footprint. Because the ekar platform is scalable, we are looking forward to introducing more electric vehicles into our car-share fleet in the future.”
Masdar City, the UAE’s sustainable district, is also home to the country’s first sustainable shopping centre and the only supermarket that does not allow shoppers to use single-use plastic bags.
