Upcoming Abu Dhabi arts festival is set to celebrate cultural diversity and tolerance

Ten acts will perform at Hekayah – The Story

National Day is just around the corner and the UAE will be celebrating 48 years of history on December 2.

In recognition of the upcoming celebration and the Year of Tolerance, the line-up for the fifth annual Hekayah – The Story festival has been announced featuring a host of local talent.

A total of ten locally-based performers including poets, singers, and musicians will come together to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and tolerance through an evening of performances.

Held at NYU Abu Dhabi on Saturday November 26, the returning festival is beign curated by creatives including Bill Bragin, Deborah Williams, Deepak Unnikrishnan, Dorian Paul Rodgers, Mohamed Alhashimi, and Aathma Nirmala Dious.

“One of the pleasures of the collaborative curatorial approach is that it helps us to assemble a line-up of artists who reflect diverse tastes and backgrounds,” said Bill Bragin executive artistic director of the Arts Center at NYUAD.

“The line-up assembled this year is especially exciting, it includes two of the most acclaimed rising Emirati pop-rock artists, and a number of NYUAD associated talents, including students, an alumnus, a professor and a staff member.

“We are especially honoured that the event will spotlight Emirati al Malid, a rich tradition which the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development first brought to our stage at last year’s Al Burda Festival.”

In addition, the evening will be hosted by Salem Al Attas, an acclaimed Emirati spoken word artist, and Rooftop Rhythms’, the inaugural poetry slam champion.

It all sounds like an exciting evening to us.
